I found myself mid-way through writing a blog post about why you should use Video for your Cake Business and it struck me –
“What am I doing? This is crazy. I need to record this blog post as a video.”. So I grabbed my iPhone and recorded a LIVE Facebook video.
It’s not rehearsed, it’s certainly not professionally shot, but it’s all me!… which is partly the point.
So, why do is VIDEO going to rock your business? Here are just 5 of the many reasons…
Reason #1: It’s ATTENTION GRABBING!
Our eyes are naturally drawn to video.
Just think of the last time you were scrolling through Facebook – what made you stop and take your thumb off the screen? What made you pause for a second? Make that split-second decision on whether to look, watch, or read something? Chances are it was a video.
There’s something about a moving image that attracts our attention.
Reason #2: People Buy From People
Yes, you’re making a cake, AND..
Yes, it comes down to your practical skills, AND..
Yes, that cakes needs to taste delicious, BUT..
People buy from people.
‘Video’ gives them a glimpse of what it would be like to work with you. It shows your personality. You can demonstrate your expertise. You can start to build a relationship with your clients before even meeting them (ever felt like you know a celebrity simply because you’ve seen the on a screen?).
If you’re like me and enjoy a nerdy stat, then how about this: According to Gideon Shalwick of Veeroll, your customers are 63% more likely to buy from you if they view a video of your products! Plus, according to Gideon, videos are 1,200% more likely to be shared. Wow!
Reason #3: You can create a great emotional connection
Whilst I personally don’t need an excuse for cake, your clients are buying from you for an emotional reason: It’s their wedding, birthday, anniversary, etc. It’s personal!
Vidoe is a great medium to make an emotional connection, to show their cake is in safe hands, to demonstrate how special you’ll make them feel if they book with you (violins, please).
Reason #4: SEO, baby!
We know that Google LOVES Video (why else would it have bought Youtube?). Having videos on your website will improve your search ranking (and make it easier for people to find you).
Reason #5: Social Media LOVES Video
Additionally, Video on Social Media is becoming more and more important – not only do videos stand out on Social, but also the platforms will show them to more people.
Let’s take Facebook as an example: Facebook rewards business pages that are engaging by showing their posts to more people. Facebook also rewards pages that have a longer dwell time on posts (if someone spends a long time on your post, then Facebook will think you are sharing great content and will show it to more people). Video is a great way of grabbing attention and keeping it for longer.

OK, in theory you’re sold on the idea of video… but I can hear what you’re thinking –
Video is not for me! I make cakes – how on earth am I going to show that on video?
Well, the great news is that I’m going to be writing a series of blogposts this week about the different types of videos you can create for your business – whether you’re comfortable in front or not. Maybe you just want to let your cakes speak for themselves.
